Preventing Plagiarism around Our Campus in Indonesia

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to make us aware of what really happens to plagiarism around our campus and how to prevent it. Plagiarism is done by students, teachers and professors around our campus in Indonesia. They do not know how to borrow ideas from other writers, and are influenced by cultural environment and academic setting. Low level learning activity that happens in the class, the poor feedback from the teachers on their writing, the plagiarism that has become a culture and the lack of guide to produce appropriate paper make students unable to express their ideas in writing properly. They are prone to fall into plagiarism that brings negative impacts for the readers, plagiarists, original authors, and institution. This kind of public lies to readers should be prevented and stopped. The best way to prevent plagiarism is through high level learning activity, to provide ample writing guide and constructive feedback from the teachers, to use plagiarism detection software, to give warning, punishment and rewards.
